Description
An engraving of the Dutch Mannerist painter Hendrick Goltzius (1558–1617), engraved by Italian printmaker Giovanni Battista Betti (1745–1785), signed “G. Boti S.” in the lower right. The original image may have been created by Hendrick Goltzius himself, as indicated by “H. del” in the lower middle.
The engraving measures 9 × 7 inches (outer dimensions) and 6.5 × 4.5 inches (inner dimensions). Press marks are clearly visible along the edges, and the ink lines are crisp and sharp. When held against the light, the pattern of laid paper and the papermaker’s watermark “A E” can be seen. These characteristics suggest that this piece is an authentic 18th-century engraving, consistent with the period of Giovanni Battista Betti.
