Description
Maurice Vlaminck (1876–1958), widely acclaimed for his masterful use of color, was one of the founding figures of Fauvism, alongside Henri Matisse and André Derain. While best known for his vivid Fauvist works, Vlaminck also explored the expressive potential of monochrome prints throughout his career. This 1927 etching, titled Nesles-la-Vallée , is a fine example of his dynamic linework and emotive landscapes.
The print was created on laid paper bearing the water mark of the historic papermaker Richard de Bas, established in 1326. The etching is in very good condition, with strong, crisp ink lines and a rich impression. There is only minor paper toning present, which does not detract from the overall visual quality.
