Description
Seated Figure – 1950s Lithograph – J. Faure
A mid-century lithograph depicting a seated female figurein a contemporary style. The contour lines are bold and fluent, underlining thefigure’s elegance and the model’s relationship with surrounding space.
Although clearly the work of a skilleddraughtsman-printmaker, the artist remains uncertain. The in-plate signatureappears to read “Ja. Faure ‘55” , and a pencil note on the verso reads “JeanFaure” . Based on both the style and handwriting, however, this artist doesnot appear to be the 20th-century landscape painter Jean Faure.
The print is in good condition. Tape marks are visiblealong the top edge on the front and all edges on the back, from prior mounting. The lower edge shows several pinholes, and the right edge has a small tear. Afaint crease is visible near the model’s left shoulder, likely from a paperflaw rather than later damage.
