Description
Renaissance-Style – Mid-20th – Original Graphite Drawing – attr. Hans Wimmer (German Sculptor)
This drawing features figures, flora, and architectural motifs in the Renaissance style. The artist experimented with the use of flowing curves to unify form and movement. While the inscriptions are difficult to distinguish, the lower right bears a monogram that resembles “HW,” consistent with the signature style of German sculptor Hans Wimmer (1907–1992). This attribution is further supported by provenance, as the piece was acquired with other Hans Wimmer works from the same lot.
Hans Wimmer studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1928 to 1935, and later at the German Academy in Rome (Villa Massimo) in 1940. From 1949 to 1972, he served as Professor of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. Over his career, Wimmer participated in numerous exhibitions and received multiple awards. It is likely that this drawing was produced during his study period in Rome.
The sheet is mounted on board and is in fair condition, with areas of discoloration and several ink spots visible on the surface.
