Description
Edward Moran – Landscape with River-19th Century Etching- Artist Proof
An original etching by Edward Moran (1829-1901) depicting a quiet river landscape with trees, shoreline structures, and calm reflected water. Best known as an American marine and landscape painter, Moran was born in England in 1829 and later worked in Philadelphia and New York. He specialized in maritime and landscape subjects, making this composition a fitting example of his broader body of work.
This impression appears to be a first proof, with pencil notation at lower left, and is signed Edward Moran in pencil at lower right beneath the plate. The composition is handled in a loose, atmospheric line, with strong natural detail in the trees and riverbank architecture.
The sheet is in fair condition, with toning, heavier discoloration along the edges and verso, minor edge damage, and handling wear consistent with age.
