Sold
Description
A finely detailed 19th-century steel engraving of Maulbronn Abbey (Kloster Maulbronn), one of the best-preserved medieval Cistercian monasteries in Europe and today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The composition depicts the monastery complex nestled within the rolling hills of Baden-Württemberg, with the Gothic church, fortified walls, and half-timbered buildings rendered in meticulous linework. Figures and animals animate the scene, emphasizing the Abbey’s role as both a spiritual and working community. The print was drawn by H. Schönfeld and engraved by L. Thümmling, issued by G.G. Lange in Darmstadt for Verlag der Stettin’schen Buchhandlung in Ulm.
Printed on wove paper with a strong impression and fine tonal range. Moderate foxing and toning throughout, typical for its age.
