Antonio Verrio– 18th Century Baroque Artist Portrait Print – Engraved by Alexander Bannerman Copperplate engraving portrait of the Italian Baroque painter Antonio Verrio (1636–1707), engraved by Alexander Bannerman (Scottish, 1730–1780). The image presents Verrio half-length within an oval frame, a format typical of early 18th-century British artist portrait prints. Bannerman’s signature, “A. Bannerman Sculp.”, appears within the plate at lower right. Below the image is the engraved name “VERRIO”. This type of portrait engraving was produced shortly after Verrio’s death to document notable artists and court painters active in England. Verrio was a leading decorative painter of the late 17th century, known for his large-scale mural work at Windsor Castle, Hampton Court, and other major English estates. The impression is in fair condition. It was trimmed inside the plate mark and glued on a window mat. A horizontal fold mark is visible at the center of the image.
