Description

This beautifully executed lithograph was made by New York–based painter, draughtsman, and printmaker John Wesley Carroll (1892–1959). Carroll was active starting from early 1920s and closely associated with American modern masters like George Bellows and Robert Henri. His work blends influences from Cubism and El Greco, evident in his female portraits—marked by elegant slim, elongated necks and fingers. This particular lithograph, Ribbons, exemplifies Carroll’s signature style. Another impression of this print is collected by the Metroplitan Museum of Art.
This impression is from a limited edition of 250, bearing Carroll’s plate signature and a pencil signature. The print is in good condition, housed in a window mat with two residual tape marks along the upper edge from prior matting. All corners and edges remain intact.
