Description
Fernando Mercado (b. 1936, El Paso, Texas) studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and worked as an illustrator for Boeing Aircraft Corporation. Among many fellow California artists, Mercado created various Abstract Expressionist works in the 1960s and 1970s.
In this medium-to-large painting (30.5 x 25.5 in), Mercado continued his exploration in color, texture, composition, and movement. The painting is in fair condition. The lower edge has a ~1 inch tear, and pinholes are present in all four corners. Some tape marks remain on the back from previous mounting. Two small areas of paint and paper loss are visible near the border between the green and yellow blocks.
