Description

1979 Art Expo New York Poster – Ivan Chermayeff – New York Coliseum A large exhibition poster designed by Ivan Chermayeff for Art Expo New York, held at the New York Coliseum from March 8–12, 1979. Chermayeff, co-founder of Chermayeff & Geismar, was one of the most influential graphic designers of the twentieth century. This poster is especially memorable for its playful, self-aware design: instead of presenting a polished final image, it features a photographed working mock-up complete with handwritten notes, masking tape, and color swatches. The composition spells out ART EXPO NEW YORK 1979, with each letter and number treated in a different visual style that nods to major modern art movements. The result is both a strong graphic design piece and a witty reflection on the creative process itself. The poster is in good vintage condition. The image area is intact and the colors remain bright. The edges show minor handling marks. Please refer to the pictures for condition.
